The Quartile Take

Gone (2012) is a competent but unremarkable thriller that leans heavily on familiar genre conventions. The premise of an unreliable protagonist whose mental health is doubted by authorities has been done many times before, and the film doesn't add much fresh to the formula. Amanda Seyfried delivers a committed performance that elevates the material somewhat, but the plot is predictable and the mystery lacks real tension or surprise. The cinematography is functional but uninspired, and the resolution feels rushed and underwhelming rather than satisfying. A serviceable but forgettable mid-tier thriller.
