Gigli (2003)

Quartile rating: 4/10 · 1 rating

Gigli is ordered to kidnap the psychologically challenged younger brother of a powerful federal prosecutor. When plans go awry, Gigli's boss sends in Ricki, a gorgeous free-spirited female gangster who has her own set of orders to assist with the kidnapping. But Gigli begins falling for the decidedly unavailable Ricki, which could be a hazard to his occupation.

The Quartile Take

Gigli is widely regarded as one of Hollywood's most notorious disasters. The plot is incoherent and meandering, lurching between tonal extremes without payoff. The chemistry between Affleck and Lopez, despite their real-life romance, translates poorly on screen, and the supporting performances (including a bizarre Walken cameo) feel wasted. Cinematography is competent but utterly unremarkable. The film attempts a quirky crime-romance hybrid but executes it so poorly that any novelty is squandered. The ending is rushed and nonsensical, failing to resolve the story in any satisfying way.
