Times are changing for Manny the moody mammoth, Sid the motor mouthed sloth and Diego the crafty saber-toothed tiger. Life heats up for our heroes when they meet some new and none-too-friendly neighbors – the mighty dinosaurs.
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs is a competent but formulaic entry in the franchise. The plot is thin and episodic, leaning heavily on slapstick set pieces rather than meaningful story development. The voice cast performs reliably — Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, and Denis Leary deliver their established characters well, with Simon Pegg's Buck being a fun addition. Visually, the film benefits from solid 3D animation with colorful dinosaur jungle environments that provide some visual variety over prior entries. However, the novelty is low — the dino-world premise is a gimmick that feels grafted onto the series rather than organically developed, and the overall narrative is a by-the-numbers rescue mission. The ending resolves predictably with little emotional payoff beyond franchise maintenance.
