Quartile rating: 8/10 · 4 ratings
Two co-dependent high school seniors are forced to deal with separation anxiety after their plan to stage a booze-soaked party goes awry.
Superbad is a genuinely funny and well-performed coming-of-age comedy. Jonah Hill and Michael Cera have exceptional chemistry and deliver standout performances that elevate the material well above average. The plot is a fairly standard one-wild-night teen comedy framework, competently executed but not groundbreaking. Cinematography is functional and unremarkable, typical of studio comedies of the era. Novelty is moderate — while the film feels distinctive in its voice and raw humor, it draws heavily from the teen comedy tradition. The ending is warm and emotionally satisfying but predictable, landing the character beats without surprising the audience.
