With Mystery, Inc. on the tail of a strange object in Nowhere, Kansas, the strange hometown of Eustace, Muriel, and Courage, the gang soon find themselves contending with a giant cicada monster and her winged warriors.
The crossover concept is genuinely delightful and nostalgic, bringing together two beloved Cartoon Network/Hanna-Barbera properties in a way that feels earned rather than cynical. The novelty is the film's clear standout — seeing Courage's surreal, horror-tinged Nowhere collide with the more grounded Mystery Inc. dynamic is inspired and executed with real affection for both properties. The voice acting delivers solid performances that honor the original characters. Cinematography is competent animated TV-movie fare with some fun stylistic nods to Courage's distinctive visual horror aesthetic. The plot itself is thin and formulaic — a monster-of-the-week structure that doesn't push the crossover premise as far as it could — and the ending resolves too neatly and quickly, failing to capitalize on the emotional or thematic potential built up by the unique premise.
