The Quartile Take

Sleepless in Seattle is a warmly crafted romantic comedy with a charming premise built around longing and coincidence rather than direct interaction between its leads. The plot is slight but functional, leaning heavily on An Affair to Remember as both homage and structural blueprint, which limits its originality. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan deliver likable performances that carry the film emotionally, though neither is stretched dramatically. The cinematography is competent and attractive without being visually distinctive. The ending delivers the expected payoff satisfyingly but offers no surprises. Its novelty is limited by its derivative romantic scaffolding, even if Ephron executes the formula with genuine warmth and wit.
