A group of covert CIA operatives trailing a potential new energy source are double-crossed by corrupt agent Morgan, who causes a helicopter crash in remote South Africa. The sole survivor, suffering severe amnesia, is nursed to recovery by a kindly native tribe who call him "Whoami" after the question he keeps asking. With the help of a mysterious reporter Christine, Whoami pieces together his past and tracks the turncoat agent and his criminal cohorts.
Jackie Chan's 'Who Am I?' is a solid late-90s action vehicle built around a fun amnesia premise that gives Chan room to blend physical comedy with genuine stunt spectacle. The plot is serviceable but familiar — amnesiac hero, corrupt agents, globe-trotting — though the South African setting adds some freshness. Acting outside Chan himself is fairly wooden, with supporting players feeling underwritten. Cinematography is competent and occasionally impressive given the practical stunt work. The film's novelty comes from Chan's singular physicality and charm rather than any groundbreaking narrative concept. The rooftop fight sequence in Rotterdam is a genuine showstopper — one of Chan's most iconic set pieces — elevating the ending well above average and making it a memorable climax that justifies the film's cult reputation.
