The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas (2000)

Quartile rating: 5/10 · 1 rating

The Flintstones are at it again. The Flintstones and the Rubbles head for Rock Vegas with Fred hoping to court the lovely Wilma. Nothing will stand in the way of love, except for the conniving Chip Rockefeller who is the playboy born in Baysville but who has made it in the cutthroat town of Rock Vegas. Will Fred win Wilma's love?

The Quartile Take

Viva Rock Vegas is a prequel/origin story to the 2000s Flintstones live-action universe, recasting all roles and retreading familiar prehistoric comedy territory. The plot is formulaic romantic rivalry with little invention, and the script leans heavily on anachronistic Stone Age puns that feel tired. The acting is serviceable but no one distinguishes themselves—Mark Addy and Stephen Baldwin lack the comedic chemistry of the prior film's leads. Cinematography and production design are actually a mild strength, maintaining the colorful, garish aesthetic of the cartoon with competent set-building. Novelty is low; it's a by-the-numbers prequel that recycles the premise of the original live-action film without adding meaningful new ideas. The ending resolves predictably with Fred winning Wilma's love, offering no surprises.
