A group of diamond thieves on the run kidnap the wife of a recently discharged marine who goes on a chase through the South Carolinian wilderness to retrieve her.
The Marine is a straightforward WWE Films action vehicle that delivers exactly what it promises: relentless chases, explosions, and a one-dimensional hero pursuing kidnappers through swamp terrain. The plot is entirely formulaic — a thin kidnap-and-chase premise lifted from countless B-action films with no meaningful character development. John Cena's acting is wooden, though Robert Patrick brings some campy energy as the villain. Cinematography is serviceable but uninspired, typical of mid-2000s direct-action fare. Novelty is minimal — it's a paint-by-numbers action template recycled for a WWE crossover marketing exercise. The ending resolves predictably with the hero saving his wife and defeating the villain, offering no surprises. A consistently average-to-below-average film across all dimensions.
