Johnny Knoxville and his band of maniacs perform a variety of stunts and gross-out gags on the big screen for the first time. They wander around Japan in panda outfits, wreak havoc on a once civilized golf course, they even do stunts involving LIVE alligators, and so on.
Jackass: The Movie is essentially an extended TV episode brought to the big screen, with no plot to speak of — it's a pure stunt and gross-out showcase. Acting is irrelevant in the traditional sense, though Knoxville and crew have genuine charisma and commitment to their antics. Cinematography is functional at best, shot in the handheld documentary style of the show with no cinematic ambition. Novelty scores above average because the Jackass format, while derivative of the TV series, was genuinely singular in its anarchic, self-destructive energy — there was nothing quite like it in mainstream cinema at the time. The ending offers no resolution because there's nothing to resolve, wrapping up as abruptly as it begins.
