Grease 2 (1982)

Quartile rating: 5.5/10 · 1 rating

It's 1961, two years after the original Grease gang graduated, and there's a new crop of seniors and new members of the coolest cliques on campus, the Pink Ladies and T-Birds. Michael Carrington is the new kid in school - but he's been branded a brainiac. Can he fix up an old motorcycle, don a leather jacket, avoid a rumble with the leader of the T-Birds, and win the heart of Pink Lady Stephanie?

The Quartile Take

Grease 2 is a largely formulaic sequel that reverses the gender dynamic of the original but adds little else of substance. The plot is thin and predictable, the acting is uneven with Maxwell Caulfield notably wooden, and the cinematography is serviceable but unremarkable. As a sequel it recycles the setting, cliques, and musical structure without meaningful reinvention, earning low novelty marks. The ending wraps up conventionally without any particular payoff. A below-average entry across the board that earned its reputation as an inferior retread.
