Brazen is a formulaic Netflix thriller that fails to distinguish itself in any meaningful way. The murder-mystery plot is predictable and relies on well-worn genre conventions, the acting is serviceable but uninspired across the board, the cinematography is flat and televisual with no visual ambition, and the ending resolves things in an unsurprising, by-the-numbers fashion. The premise of a mystery writer solving real crimes has been done many times before, and this iteration adds nothing fresh to the formula. Across all dimensions it sits firmly in below-average territory, consistent with its poor reception.
