Summoned from an ashram in Tibet, Ace finds himself on a perilous journey into the jungles of Africa to find Shikaka, the missing sacred animal of the friendly Wachati tribe. He must accomplish this before the wedding of the Wachati's Princess to the prince of the warrior Wachootoos. If Ace fails, the result will be a vicious tribal war.

The Quartile Take

Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls is a straightforward comedy sequel that recycles the formula of the original with a new exotic setting. Jim Carrey commits fully to his rubber-faced slapstick persona and delivers some memorable gags, but the film is largely a retread. The African jungle setting provides a fresh backdrop but is mostly used as window dressing for rehashed humor. The plot is thin and predictable, the supporting cast is serviceable but unremarkable, and the cinematography is functional at best. The ending resolves the tribal conflict in a suitably absurd way that fits the tone, making it a minor bright spot. Overall it's a watchable but derivative sequel that coasts on Carrey's energy.
