Quartile rating: 5.5/10 · 1 rating
After discovering they are all dating the same same guy, three popular students from different cliques band together for revenge, so they enlist the help of a new gal in town and conspire to break the jerk's heart, while destroying his reputation.
John Tucker Must Die is a fairly formulaic mid-2000s teen revenge comedy that hits all the expected beats without much surprise. The plot is a serviceable but derivative take on the 'get back at the cheating jock' premise, offering little beyond its elevator pitch. The ensemble cast is likable but not given much to work with, delivering competent but unremarkable performances. Cinematography is standard studio teen-comedy fare with no distinctive visual flair. Novelty is low — the premise blends elements of Mean Girls and similar films without adding a fresh voice or perspective. The ending is predictable and tidy, resolving neatly in the way genre conventions demand. It's a perfectly watchable but wholly average entry in the teen comedy genre of its era.
