Ali G Indahouse (2002)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

Ali G unwittingly becomes a pawn in the evil Chancellor's plot to overthrow the Prime Minister of Great Britain. However, instead of bringing the Prime Minister down, Ali is embraced by the nation as the voice of youth and 'realness', making the Prime Minister and his government more popular than ever.

The Quartile Take

Ali G Indahouse extends Sacha Baron Cohen's beloved TV character to the big screen with some genuine laughs, but the plot is a formulaic fish-out-of-water political satire that feels stretched thin over feature length. Baron Cohen commits fully to the role and the supporting cast is solid, but the cinematography is entirely workmanlike TV-movie fare. The novelty comes from Ali G himself — a genuinely singular comic creation — though the film format dilutes the character's mockumentary edge that made him so distinctive on television. The ending wraps up predictably with little satirical bite remaining.
