Ride On (2023)

Quartile rating: 7/10 · 1 rating

A washed-up stuntman and his stunt horse become an overnight social media sensation when their real-life fight with debt collectors goes viral.

The Quartile Take

Ride On is a serviceable Jackie Chan vehicle that blends action nostalgia with sentimental father-daughter drama. The plot is formulaic — debt troubles, viral fame, reconciliation — and the ending leans heavily on tearful melodrama without much earned resolution. Chan's physical performance and genuine bond with the horse give the acting category a boost, and the stunt sequences are competently shot if not visually distinctive. The film's novelty lies in its meta-quality (an aging Chan playing an aging stuntman) and the horse-centered action, which is relatively uncommon, though the overall conception remains conventional. A pleasant but unremarkable mid-tier Chan outing.
