Years have passed since the Three Musketeers, Aramis, Athos and Porthos, have fought together with their friend, D'Artagnan. But with the tyrannical King Louis using his power to wreak havoc in the kingdom while his twin brother, Philippe, remains imprisoned, the Musketeers reunite to abduct Louis and replace him with Philippe.
A handsomely mounted but ultimately formulaic swashbuckler remake of the classic Dumas tale. The plot hits familiar beats competently without much surprise, and the ending feels rushed and convenient. The acting ensemble (Irons, Depardieu, Malkovich, Byrne, DiCaprio) is a genuine draw but performances are uneven — DiCaprio struggles with the dual role while veterans coast on charm. Cinematography is solid period-piece work, adequately grand but unremarkable. Novelty is low as this is a well-worn adaptation of a famous story with no distinctive directorial voice or fresh angle to set it apart from prior versions.
