They Call Me Trinity (1970)

Quartile rating: 7.5/10 · 1 rating

The simple story has the pair coming to the rescue of peace-loving Mormons when land-hungry Major Harriman sends his bullies to harass them into giving up their fertile valley. Trinity and Bambino manage to save the Mormons and send the bad guys packing with slapstick humor instead of excessive violence, saving the day.

The Quartile Take

They Call Me Trinity is a landmark spaghetti western parody that earns high Novelty for brilliantly subverting the genre's conventions with slapstick comedy and irreverent humor — a genuinely distinctive fusion that launched an entire subgenre. The plot is intentionally simple and functional, serving the comedy rather than offering dramatic depth, which earns it a solid but unremarkable score. Terence Hill and Bud Spencer have wonderful chemistry and comic timing, elevating the acting above average. Cinematography is workmanlike and serviceable — competent genre fare but nothing visually exceptional. The ending is satisfying and tonally consistent with the film's breezy charm without being particularly memorable.
