Hong Kong cop Chan Ka-Kui returns, working with Interpol to track down and arrest an illegal weapons dealer. Chan later realizes that things are not as simple as they appear and soon finds himself to be a pawn of an organization posing as Russian intelligence.
Jackie Chan's Fourth Police Story entry delivers his trademark blend of acrobatic stunt work and slapstick comedy, with memorable set pieces including the ladder fight and shark tank sequence. However, the plot is notably convoluted and thin even by action-comedy standards, struggling to coherently tie together its globe-trotting locations from Hong Kong to Ukraine to Australia. Chan's physical performance and charisma carry the film, while the cinematography capably captures the stunt work. The ending feels rushed and unsatisfying, failing to resolve the narrative threads with much impact. The film offers enough Chan-specific novelty in its stunt choreography to distinguish it, but the formulaic spy-thriller scaffolding holds it back from true distinctiveness.
