After a single, career-minded woman is left on her own to give birth to the child of a married man, she finds a new romantic chance in a cab driver. Meanwhile, the point-of-view of the newborn baby is narrated through voice-over.
Look Who's Talking is a lightweight romantic comedy elevated slightly by its genuinely fun gimmick: the inner voice of a newborn narrated by Bruce Willis. The concept is novel enough for its era and executed with cheerful energy, giving it modest distinctiveness. John Travolta and Kirstie Alley have decent chemistry and deliver serviceable performances, but the plot is formulaic — a predictable single-mom romance with few surprises. Cinematography is entirely functional and unremarkable, typical of late-80s comedies. The ending is by-the-numbers wish fulfillment with little earned emotional payoff. Overall a pleasant, forgettable crowd-pleaser that trades almost entirely on its voice-over conceit.
