John and his buddy, Jeremy are emotional criminals who know how to use a woman's hopes and dreams for their own carnal gain. Their modus operandi: crashing weddings. Normally, they meet guests who want to toast the romantic day with a random hook-up. But when John meets Claire, he discovers what true love – and heartache – feels like.
Wedding Crashers is a solid mid-2000s comedy with genuine charm and comedic energy. The plot is a serviceable romantic comedy framework elevated by sharp comedic writing and good chemistry, though it loses steam in the third act. Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson carry the film with natural comic timing and likable rapport, making the acting above average for the genre. Cinematography is functional and unremarkable — competent but nothing distinctive. The concept of wedding crashers as a lifestyle and the buddy-comedy execution gives it enough of a distinctive voice to sit above average in novelty for its era. The ending, however, is a formulaic romantic comedy resolution that retreads familiar ground without much surprise or emotional payoff, landing below average.
