The Quartile Take

The 2024 reimagining of The Crow struggles to justify its existence. The plot is a muddled retelling that strips away much of the original's gothic poetry in favor of a messy non-linear structure. The leads lack chemistry and conviction, with Bill Skarsgård miscast as Eric Draven — his performance feels uncertain rather than haunted. Visually, there are occasional stylish flourishes and moody aesthetics that show ambition, but they can't compensate for incoherent storytelling. As a remake of a cult classic, it brings little new perspective — it neither honors the source faithfully nor carves out a bold new identity. The ending is unsatisfying and emotionally hollow, failing to deliver the catharsis the premise demands. Overall a below-average genre effort that disappoints fans of the original and newcomers alike.
