Jean Claude Van Damme plays a dual role as Alex and Chad, twins separated at the death of their parents. Chad is raised by a family retainer in Paris, Alex becomes a petty crook in Hong Kong. Seeing a picture of Alex, Chad rejoins him and convinces him that his rival in Hong Kong is also the man who killed their parents. Alex is suspicious of Chad, especially when it comes to his girlfriend.
Double Impact is a solid B-action vehicle built around the gimmick of Van Damme playing twins, which gives it a modest novelty boost over standard late-era action fare. The dual-role concept is fun and reasonably well-executed technically, with competent Hong Kong-flavored cinematography and action staging. However, the plot is formulaic revenge fare with thin characterization, Van Damme's acting range is limited even when doubled, and the climax resolves predictably without much dramatic payoff. It's an entertaining curio of its era but firmly mid-tier.
