Thinking he can overshadow an unknown actress in the part, an egocentric actor unknowingly gets a witch cast in an upcoming television remake of the classic show "Bewitched".
Bewitched 2005 attempts a meta twist on the source material by casting a real witch in a TV remake, which is a reasonably clever concept. However, the execution is muddled and the story never quite decides what kind of film it wants to be. The performances from Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell are uneven, with Ferrell's comedic style clashing awkwardly with the romantic fantasy tone. Visually the film is competent but unremarkable, offering nothing cinematically distinctive. The ending resolves predictably without earning its emotional payoff. The meta-concept gives it a slight novelty edge over a straight remake, but overall this is a disappointment that fails to capitalize on its own premise.
