In feudal China, a blacksmith who makes weapons for a small village is put in the position where he must defend himself and his fellow villagers.

The Quartile Take

RZA's directorial debut is a loving homage to classic Shaw Brothers kung-fu cinema filtered through a hip-hop sensibility, giving it a distinctive voice that earns some novelty points. The cinematography has genuine flair with vibrant colors and inventive fight choreography. However, the plot is overstuffed and incoherent, juggling too many factions and characters without meaningful development. The acting ranges from campy fun (Russell Crowe) to wooden (RZA himself), and the ending feels rushed and unsatisfying. It's a passionate genre exercise that falls short of its ambitions.
