The Quartile Take

Firewall is a generic mid-2000s thriller that recycles the well-worn 'family held hostage to coerce protagonist' formula without meaningful variation. Harrison Ford delivers a competent but uninspired performance, going through familiar motions in a role that feels beneath his range. The cinematography is functional but unremarkable, typical of bland Hollywood studio product of the era. The tech/hacker elements feel superficial and dated rather than genuinely insightful, and the resolution is predictable and unsatisfying. Nothing about the film distinguishes it from dozens of similar thrillers.
