Quartile rating: 5/10 · 1 rating
A mild-mannered guy who is engaged to a monstrous woman meets the woman of his dreams, and schemes to find a way to be with her.
Norbit is a broadly played, formulaic comedy that recycles well-worn tropes of the henpecked man and the monstrous overweight antagonist. The plot offers little originality, relying on racial and body stereotypes for cheap laughs. Acting is functional at best, with Eddie Murphy in multiple roles delivering some energy but largely playing caricatures. Cinematography is entirely unremarkable, standard studio comedy fare. The ending is predictable from the first act. Novelty is its weakest point — the concept, execution, and humor feel entirely derivative with no distinctive voice or craft to set it apart.
