Canary Black is a fairly generic spy-thriller with a well-worn premise—agent blackmailed into betrayal to save a loved one—that offers little narrative surprise. Kate Beckinsale delivers a committed performance that elevates the material above its script, and the film is competently shot with decent European location work. However, the plotting is formulaic, the twists telegraphed, and the resolution underwhelming. It sits comfortably in mid-tier streaming action territory without distinguishing itself in conception or execution.
