A high school slacker who's rejected by every school he applies to opts to create his own institution of higher learning, the South Harmon Institute of Technology, on a rundown piece of property near his hometown.
Accepted is a mid-2000s teen comedy with a charming, if thin, premise that carries genuine comedic energy through its central concept of a fake college becoming real. The plot is formulaic in execution despite its fun setup, hitting every expected beat of the underdog genre. Justin Long and Jonah Hill provide likable performances but the supporting cast is largely underdeveloped. Visually it's flat and televisual, with no distinctive cinematographic choices. The ending resolves too neatly and predictably, robbing the story of any real stakes. Its novelty lies mainly in the college-fraud premise, which gives it a slight edge over pure by-the-numbers fare, but it doesn't push its concept far enough to stand out meaningfully.
