When he hears that the new female employee digs ambitious men who are the store employee of the month, a slacker gets his act together but finds himself in competition with his rival, an ambitious co-worker.
Employee of the Month is a by-the-numbers workplace comedy that recycles the slacker-gets-motivated-by-girl premise without adding much originality or wit. The plot is formulaic and predictable, the acting from Dane Cook and Jessica Simpson is serviceable at best, and the cinematography is flat and unremarkable retail-setting fare. The rivalry between Cook and Dax Shepard provides some mild entertainment but the film never transcends its generic roots. The ending resolves exactly as expected with no surprises. Novelty is particularly low as this treads well-worn comedic territory with nothing distinctive in its execution.
