Hallie Parker and Annie James are identical twins separated at a young age because of their parents' divorce. Unknowingly to their parents, the girls are sent to the same summer camp where they meet, discover the truth about themselves, and then plot with each other to switch places.
The Parent Trap is a charming, well-executed remake of the 1961 Disney classic. Lindsay Lohan's dual performance as both twins is genuinely impressive for a child actor and anchors the film, while Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson provide warm, believable adult performances. The plot is familiar by design — it's a remake with a well-worn twin-swap premise — keeping Novelty low. Cinematography is competent and pleasant but unremarkable. The ending is satisfying but entirely predictable. The film's lasting appeal rests heavily on its cast chemistry and Lohan's standout debut.
