The Wrath of Becky (2023)

Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

Two years after she escaped a violent attack on her family, 16-year-old Becky attempts to rebuild her life in the care of an older woman -- a kindred spirit named Elena. However, when a violent group known as the Noble Men break into their home, attack them and take their beloved dog, Becky must return to her old ways to protect herself and her loved ones.

The Quartile Take

The Wrath of Becky is a functional but formulaic revenge sequel that essentially reruns the first film's premise with a new set of villains (alt-right extremists replacing generic home invaders). The plot is thin and recycled — Becky loses something she loves, goes on a brutal rampage to get it back — offering little structural surprise. Lulu Wilson continues to bring genuine intensity and dark charisma to the role, keeping the acting above average. The cinematography is workmanlike genre fare with no distinctive visual identity. Novelty suffers from the by-the-numbers sequel nature, though the neo-Nazi/proud boy target adds a slight satirical edge. The ending delivers the satisfying, cathartic ultra-violence the audience expects, landing solidly for what it sets out to do.
