The Quartile Take

The Covenant is a mid-2000s supernatural teen thriller that blends boarding school drama with warlock mythology. Its plot is fairly derivative, leaning heavily on familiar 'chosen group of young men with powers' tropes without adding much depth or originality. The acting is serviceable at best among its young cast, with little standout performance. Visually, it has some stylish moments and reasonably well-executed CGI action sequences for its era, earning a slight bump in cinematography. The concept of male warlocks in a New England prep school setting has mild novelty but ultimately feels like a by-the-numbers supernatural thriller. The ending resolves predictably with a CGI-heavy showdown that satisfies genre requirements but leaves little impression.
