When a much-publicized ice-skating scandal strips them of their gold medals, two world-class athletes skirt their way back onto the ice via a loophole that allows them to compete together as a pairs team.
Blades of Glory is a solid mid-2000s Will Ferrell comedy vehicle with a genuinely funny central premise — two rival male figure skaters forced to pair up — that gives it some novelty within the sports comedy genre. Ferrell and Jon Heder have decent comedic chemistry, and the supporting cast (Will Arnett, Amy Poehler) elevates the material. However, the plot is formulaic and predictable, hitting every expected sports-comedy beat without surprise. The cinematography is functional at best, typical of the era's broad comedies. The ending resolves exactly as expected with no real payoff beyond the setup's promise.
