Air Buddies is a direct-to-video spin-off that recycles the Air Bud formula with talking puppies and a formulaic kidnapping plot. The story is generic and predictable, with thin character development and minimal dramatic stakes. The acting from the human cast is serviceable at best for a DTV family film. Cinematography is workmanlike with no distinguishing visual flair. Novelty is very low — the concept is derivative of both the Air Bud franchise and countless talking-animal family films, offering nothing distinctive in conception or execution. The ending resolves the conflict in a completely expected fashion with no surprises.
