The Quartile Take

Curious George (2006) is a pleasant but unremarkable adaptation of the beloved children's book series. The plot is thin and formulaic — a fish-out-of-water story stitched together with slapstick set pieces that rarely surprise. The voice cast, including Will Ferrell and Drew Barrymore, brings warmth and charm, lifting the film above its modest script. The animation is bright and colorful with a deliberately retro, painterly style that evokes the original H.A. Rey illustrations, giving it visual appeal for a family film. However, it doesn't push the art form in any meaningful way. Novelty is low — the story hews very closely to familiar 'animal causes chaos in the city' conventions and doesn't reinvent or add much to the source material. The ending is tidy and predictable, wrapping everything up with little emotional resonance or surprise.
