The Quartile Take

This live-action/CGI adaptation of E.B. White's beloved classic is a competent but unremarkable retelling of a well-known story. The plot faithfully follows the source material but adds little new perspective. Acting from the human cast is serviceable, while the voice work (Dakota Fanning, Julia Roberts, Steve Buscemi) is decent but not transformative. Cinematography is pleasant and pastoral but formulaic for a family film. Novelty is low — the story has been adapted before (the 1973 animated film remains more iconic) and this version brings little distinctive vision or fresh interpretation. The ending retains the emotional resonance of the book's bittersweet farewell, which still lands adequately even in this version.
